Today I am taking a different approach to the type of articles that I share with you and present 25 reasons why you should never visit Romania.
Don’t let your blood start boiling, though, until you read the article up to the end. You might be up for a surprise, maybe…
In the past, we’ve talked about the good and the bad, the cheap cost of living and everything in between, but today it’s time to make things clear: you should never visit Romania.
There, I said it and in order to prove my point, I will list below the 25 most important reasons why you should never come here. Really, check them all out and you’ll be horrified. It’s a nightmare!
The truth is that there might be even more than 25 reasons why you should never come here – way more, actually – but I think that these will be enough for you to help you cut it off your “to visit” or “to retire/move to” list.
So let’s get it started!
1. It’s a poor country with mostly rural life
2. The girls are some of the ugliest in the world
3. The boys look like peasants from the past, too
4. You’ve got nothing to see
5. Just barren land
6. Roads in Romania are horrible
7. The food is meh
You know you want to learn even more about the delicious Romanian food – so read the article!
8. Dracula’s castle is overrated
9. They don’t have other castles
10. The small villages are horrible
Note: You can read about living in a village in Transylvania, first hand experience, if you’re interested.
11. The seaside is a complete mess
12. Romanian architecture is old and ugly
13. There’s no culture there
14. Danube’s Delta is overrated
15. Nature is boring in Romania
16. Man-made sculptures are unimpressive
17. Romania is actually pretty boring overall!
18. Just horrible religious buildings
19. Nothing to see!
I wrote an in-depth article about my trip to Bigar Waterfall – make sure to check it out for extra videos and photos!
20. You have no reason to ever visit Romania
21. There’s nothing unique about it
22. Unimpressive buildings and nothing more
23. Boring people
24. Boring traditions
25. Overall, a boring & unimpressive country
I’m sure this completely changes your mind in case you were considering to come here and visit or retire… right?
If you liked this – don’t forget to share it with the world so that everybody knows the “horrors” here. I’m sure that they will be surprised to see these reasons and they will enjoy it just as much as you do.
Note: Since there were people reading this article that couldn’t really get the joke, I feel obliged to actually write this down so that it’s clear for everybody.
No, friends, I am not blind or crazy: those above are indeed reasons why you should visit Romania, but I just wanted to take a different approach, be a bit more lighthearted and have some fun. Enjoy beautiful Romania!

This list is terrible!!! Romania sucks!!! I will never, ever think of visiting it. 🙂 . In fact, l think l will make a trip there very soon just to tell you how horrible it is! So meh!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 . Great post!
Thank you! I thought it’s time for a different approach this time :))
Forget the sales pitch, how does one file for residency? I have a pension about 10 times what a civil servant earns, plus some savings.
John, you can find all your answers by reading my article on getting a residence permit: https://www.romaniaexperience.com/how-to-get-a-residence-permit-in-romania/
Calin: You’re too funny! You had me until I saw the pictures.
Is #12 the old building in Constanta (sorry I don’t have the correct spelling)?
Yes, it is, Teil!
That did it! I’m convinced….trip is off! 😉 There are so many places and things to see around Romania that I don’t even know where to start once we figure out enough about our initial town. One thing I know is that there is a lot around Drobeta that I must see. I want to see the statue, the bridge, the baths, the sunken town, etc. If the weather there was more to my mountain liking then I would be moving there. Thanks for another great article C!
I am with you all the way, unfortunately this is so horrible and scary for such things to be seen. However , I am down to earth and Am ganna challenge and convince myself to take a short trip to visit those ugly places. 🙂
Just keep on sending us such horrible and ugly things please.
Wishing you all the best from Jordan.
Thank you, Emad! I hope you will have a great time when you come here!
If only the U.S. was as bad! Seriously, if Romania plays it’s cards right, it might explode in popularity.
I highly doubt that… but we’ll see 🙂
Thank u so much for making this list — I first visited Romania 10 years ago and have traveled all over the country…. I come back once or twice each year just to try and find 1 good reason to come back again. So far no luck, but I will keep coming back just to find 1 good thing about Romania and will post when I do 🙂
Haha, let us know if you manage to find something like that, Steve!
MY FAVORITE PLACE TO VISIT!. its HOME to me. considering i was born there but live in the STATES now. I CAN MAKE pretty much everything that i ate as a child however the food in the STATES is NOT as fresh as in ROMANIA. but still works.
Most of these are unironically half-truths.
it’s not a rich country, the people are nothing special,
nature actually is very nice here, the roads are not good tho.
the food also is nothing special. Dracula’s castle is overrated and compared to western europe,
we don’t really have many forts (eg. France).
Small villages are nothing special either.
The seaside IS quite the mess, to be honest.
There is some nice architecture, but so little in numbers that I’m not boasting with it.
The culture is actually nice.
The delta is not overrated, it’s just fine.
One can debate about the religious buildings..
Overall, if you want to visit the nature, you are fine.
If you want to see other things too, there are better places for that.
Very funny man. I knew for sure when you wrote that the girls were some of the ugliest in the world that something was up there. Not to mention all the beautiful country I am vaguely familiar with. Some on the sea though I forget which one. Caspian ? Mediterranean? Neither? But even never having set foot in Romania I am well aware few would call the girls there (or anywhere for that matter), but Romania in particular, as ugly. Most beautiful in the world ? Well….I will always be biased toward the great melting pot of the United States. But yeah, those incredible Romanian beauties just might be the best of all.
Haha, happy to hear that you enjoyed it! Romania is by the Black Sea which is just as “ugly” as the rest of the country 🙂 And indeed, the beauty of the ladies here can give any country a run for their money.
At the beginning my eyes just popped out when I’ve seen the title then I start to kind of understand the point.I am also a beautiful romanian and PROUD of all the beauties my country has to offer. In terms of living it sucks, but as a country is just so beautiful.Great article !
Happy to read that you enjoyed it, Miha! Romania is indeed beautiful, even though living here has it’s Cons (but every country does).
Hello, this post has just gotten me in trouble 🙁 I read it a while back and didn’t really look at pictures , just skimmed through points, fully believing what you were saying about Romania ! I am from UK, I mentioned it to someone and they said I was very rude, insulting the country especially when the dog we have rescued from there was bought over from Romania and the poor rescuers and drivers !
My tail is between my legs, I should have read more carefully 🙁
Honestly, someone from romania. Half of this isn’t true… I think it can be very beautiful. As well as I don’t look ugly at all (*:
As I was reading those I was screaming and pulling my hair. Like. Wtf?? Boring religious buildings? Boring buildings? No history? Dacian empire, Vlad Țepeș vlad was one of the biggest blocks and enemies of the othomans and so headstrong and terrifying. All the traditions and ethics of balkan countries. The folklore and myths and history there are. And I’m like. Wtf has this author smoked?
Looks like you still haven’t read til the end, though 🙂
This is NOT true, as a Romanian I have been there and definitely recommend going. It is a beautiful country with LOTS of things to see. The nature is beautiful and the food there is AWESOME. Maybe next time use actual facts and not your opinion.
This article is terrible. Bashing another country with contradicting images and limited text shows a lack of intellect. Feels like this article was written by Boat.
Maybe next time try and read all that “limited text” before commenting?
Based on this comment section, maybe you should write a post about Romanian humour 😁
Hahaha. Great point!
You risk too much :-))) After I read the article I understood your funny style.
