Quick facts & must-knows

Brasov is the type of city that instantly makes you want to stay longer than you planned. It is, after all, a favorite among expats for a reason!

You probably know it from those classic photos: the “Hollywood”-style sign up on Tampa hill, the medieval Old Town, maybe the Black Church, or stories about winter sports and mountain escapes.

But, as usual with Romania, Brasov has a lot more to deliver, together with its nearby attractions, from Dracula’s Castle to Peles Castle and beyond.

Here’s what I think: Brasov is a rare mix of medieval charm, cool city vibes, amazing locals, delicious food, and dramatic Carpathian scenery. You get cobblestone streets, pastel-colored buildings, city walls and towers straight out of a fairy tale – all within walking distance from the old town area!

But you also get bustling cafes, festivals, top-notch food, and a base for every mountain adventure you can imagine. Whether you love history, hiking, skiing, or just want to wander and soak up the atmosphere, Brasov is one of those places you can lose yourself in… forever.

Things to do and see in and around Brasov

Brasov is well connected by train, car, and bus to the rest of the country, especially Bucharest, which is a couple of hours of driving away – but even the farther-away Timisoara is well connected.

And, since recently, there’s also an international airport in Brasov, which will only increase in terms of routes offered – even though at the moment, these are limited.

So getting here is easy. And once in Brasov, you’ll certainly wish to start exploring. Here’s what to read to get ready:

Where to stay in Brasov & Expat Life

Brasov has accommodation for every style and budget, from historic boutique hotels and Airbnbs in the Old Town to budget hostels and modern apartments. Staying near Piata Sfatului (Council Square) is the best choice if you want to be where everything happens (and prices are still affordable!)
